Dear Theo, I hear you are getting older and wiser. I can hardly believe you are already 9! I thought it was time I wrote you a proper letter, one grown-up to an almost-grown-up. People will tell you all sorts of things about me. Here is what I will tell you: Christmas magic is real, and it has always been made by people who care about each other. You are one of those people now. I am proud of you for sticking up for a friend at school. That is exactly the kind of person the world needs. This year I have a job for you: help make Christmas magical for your little sister June. I could use someone I trust. Thank you for believing in the good stuff.
With love and jingle bells,
Santa Claus

What makes it work
- Do not argue the case. A letter that tries to prove Santa is real invites cross-examination.
- Promote them. Older kids respond to being trusted: ask them to help keep the magic alive for someone younger.
- Be specific. Details only family would know are what make an older child pause.
- Real ink matters most at this age. Older kids check whether the letter came out of a printer.
Lines worth borrowing
I thought it was time I wrote you a proper letter, one grown-up to an almost-grown-up.
Christmas magic is real, and it has always been made by people who care about each other.
This year I have a job for you.
How the letter is made
Every letter is written stroke by stroke with a real pen, in real ink, on Santa’s letterhead. The pen is held by a writing machine, which is how we can write thousands of letters and still have each one be actual pen on paper. The envelope is addressed to the child in the same ink. See how it works.
Questions
What should Santa say to a child who asks if he is real?
Our letter for older children does not make claims to defend. It tells them that Christmas magic is made by people who care about each other, and invites them to help make it for someone younger.
Will an older child be able to tell the letter is printed?
It is not printed. Each letter is written stroke by stroke with a real pen in real ink, so the ink sits on the paper the way a pen leaves it.
