A sample letter
This is the letter “Baby’s first Christmas”, filled in for Henry. In the builder you change the details, edit any sentence, and see it in Santa’s handwriting before you pay.
Dear Henry, Ho ho ho! This is your very first Christmas, and I wanted my very first letter to you to be a special one. You are brand new to my list, and what a wonderful addition you are. Everyone at the North Pole has been talking about you. Mrs. Claus says you are the sweetest name we have added all year. I hear you have already been busy learning to smile, roll over and keep everyone up at night. What a year it has been! One day you will be big enough to read this yourself. When you do, I hope you know how loved you were from the very start. Rudolph already knows the way to Asheville, so don’t you worry about a thing. Please give your big sister Nora a big hug from me. Merry first Christmas, little one. I will visit you every year from now on.
With love and jingle bells,
Santa Claus

What makes it work
- Write it for the child they will be at seven, not the baby they are now. This is the letter they will read later.
- Mention the year’s firsts: first smile, first tooth, first trip to see the grandparents.
- Name the people who love them. A baby’s first letter is really a snapshot of the family that year.
- Keep the envelope. The handwritten address and the date are part of the keepsake.

How the letter is made
Every letter is written stroke by stroke with a real pen, in real ink, on Santa’s letterhead. The pen is held by a writing machine, which is how we can write thousands of letters and still have each one be actual pen on paper. The envelope is addressed to the child in the same ink. See how it works.
Questions
Is a letter from Santa worth it for a baby who can’t read?
Yes, as a keepsake. Parents save a first-Christmas letter in the baby book and read it aloud in later years. It is written to be read back when the child is older.
Can the letter mention siblings?
Yes. There is a field for someone to mention by name, such as a big brother or sister, a pet or a grandparent.
